The first on-site workshop of PHENOWEX was a success. Partners from EGE University, CYENS – Centre of Excellence and Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche received hands-on experience related to phenotyping platforms for advanced plant breeding and production.

The first day included European scale phenotyping followed by the latest developments in visualizing roots by presentations and tour of the facilities in Julich. Furthermore, critical review of phenotyping platforms was showcased.

The second day included an overview of non-invasive data acquisition in the field from ground based and flying platforms followed by a focus on one important plant trait: photosynthesis. Afterwards, what is possible to achieve with this data was showcased, through machine learning. A visit to the field with new field phenotyping infrastructure completed the second day.

The final day personalized the learning experience with hands-on sessions on multiple subjects such as: UAV image processing, introduction to machine learning, fair data publishing and access and more.
